Artist Overview
Monique Mah is an interdisciplinary artist and Master of Fine Arts student whose research-creation practice explores cultural transmission and the embodied possibilities of material experimentation. She examines how migration, language loss, and generational distance interrupt the passage of ritual knowledge. Her work asks what happens when the “right way” to mourn or celebrate becomes unclear-and how making can open new pathways of inheritance. Working across ceramics, textiles, biomaterials, and performance, she approaches craft as a sensorial form of memory-keeping. Influenced by Janet Hoskins’ biographical objects and Michel Serres’ concept of corporal memory, she considers the act of making itself as a ritual that sustains cultural identity.
